FIFA Women’s PotY Nadine Kessler needs knee operation, could miss 2015 World Cup


With the 2015 Women’s World Cup just three months away, Germany have been dealt a bitter blow to their hopes of winning their third World Cup, as 2014 FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Nadine Kessler needs an unexpected knee surgery.

While she will miss the remainder of the current club season for Wolfsburg, a timetable for Kessler’s return to action this summer won’t be known until she undergoes the operation, the ninth such surgery since turning pro at age 17, on March 12.

The 26-year-old led Germany to victory at the 2013 European Championships, the nation’s sixth-straight continental title, and was due to make her World Cup debut after missing out on the 2011 squad.
