The Red Devils are the slim favorites heading into this match at 3:45 p.m. ET despite Arsenal sitting in third in the PL standings, while United are in fourth. The duo have a rich history against one another in this competition, as the chance to write another chapter in their rivalry presents itself with a place in the final four on the line.
Louis van Gaal’s squad beat Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season and the Dutch manager will be hoping his superstar attackers shine on Monday in front of 75,000 expectant fans.
What they’re saying
Van Gaal previews the big match: “United and Arsenal are placed third and fourth in the Premier League so it’s almost like a final, I think,” van Gaal said. “It is a big event with two good teams. I hope we can give a fantastic match for the fans.”
Wenger on Arsenal’s poor record at United: “I know we have not won at Old Trafford for a few years, but I don’t believe history plays any part in this game,” Wenger said. “It doesn’t matter what shirt they wear, or what stadium they play in, it is down to quality.
It will be a tense affair at Old Trafford with Arsenal’s gameplan likely to be along the lines of containing United’s danger-men then springing devastating counter attacks with the pace of Sanchez, Welbeck and Walcott. United will be under pressure to deliver, and I think the home advantage will see them through to the FA Cup semifinals. 2-1 to the Red Devils.
