David de Gea’s girlfriend thinks Manchester is “uglier than the back of a fridge”

Close your eyes and cover your ears, Manchester United fans, particularly if you’re a fan of David de Gea and hold out any hope the Spanish goalkeeper will stay at the club beyond his current contract, which runs out next summer.

While de Gea might enjoying his time at Man United — then again, maybe he’s not — his girlfriend, Spanish singer Edurne Garcia, has made her feelings about her other half’s adopted home unequivocally clear.

Speaking in a Spanish TV interview this week, Garcia began by agreeing with the show’s host that Manchester is “uglier than the back of a fridge,” and finished with her own assessment:

“It’s not very nice, that’s for sure. You have to hunt out specific places, the nicer places.

“But even then Spain is nicer. The reason I like it is because David’s there. With him being there, everything looks wonderful.”

De Gea, who has frequently been linked with a big-money transfer to Real Madrid, has been one of United’s few consistent performers this season, though the Manchester giants find themselves currently holding down and fighting for a top-four place, anyway.

Only time will tell how much sway Garcia holds with De Gea once Real come calling this summer or next, but it sounds like her mind is made up. It’s pretty clear she would like the 24-year-old shot-stopper back in Spain, with her.
