UEFA Europa League preview: Everton now England’s last hope in Europe; Fiorentina, Roma to break deadlock


A trio of big names face home challenges in second legs of theUEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Inter Milan, Besiktas and Ajax are among the clubs in danger of going out of Europe by the end of the night, while Villarreal and Torino are also dealing from positions of weakness.

England’s lone remaining European contender, Everton, will head to Ukraine with a 2-1 lead but an away goal allowed to Dynamo Kyiv. Roberto Martinez’s crew is in good form and carries fine confidence after a 3-0 beatdown of Newcastle on Sunday, with a spunky Aaron Lennon creating plenty of havoc. The Toffees host QPR on Sunday in the Premier League.

Reigning champs Sevilla simply need to avoid disaster after building a 3-1 lead versus La Liga rivals Villarreal last week, while Wolfsburg continues to look a threat to win the tournament after thumping Inter 3-1 in its first leg.

Napoli, Club Brugge and Dnipro are the other teams with an advantage after one leg, while Serie A sides Roma and Fiorentina were the only clubs to draw in their first leg. I Lupi is the club with the away goal in the pairing, and will try to stop Viola in Rome
