Everything besides Daniel Sturridge’s goal, though, was according to plan. Van Gaal called the win “one of the most important” of his career, one which has seen plenty of ups.
He also hailed two-goal man Juan Mata, who had been dreadfully underused by the Dutchman.
“Juan is one of my better players. I looked for balance and now I have found a position where he plays very good and he also scores two goals and marvelous goals.”
