Rivals in club ball, Manchester United’s Michael Carrick and Chelsea’s Gary Cahill can feel free to gush about Tottenham’s Harry Kane during their time with England.
[ ENGLAND: Mason called up to replace Lallana ]
The Premier League’s leading goal scorer is an ally for Carrick and Cahill for the next week or so — and into the future — and the two veterans gushed good thoughts when asked about the Spurs’ striker.
The BBC dropped these quotes on their rolling live coverage of England training:
Carrick on Kane:
“The progress Harry Kane has made has been sensational, he’s gone up two or three levels. His performances keep improving.
“What has impressed me the most is that as the spotlight has increased on him, his performances have only improved and improved. That’s a good sign.
“I’m sure that shows that this season is not a one off – I think he’s got a big future ahead of him.”
Cahill on Kane:
“Really good. I’ve played against him three times this season – and he has been a real handful each time. He is a fantastic talent. He can hold the ball up, he can run in behind, he has two good feet. He has all the key attributes that a striker needs.
“To score a hat-trick in the match leading up to your first England call up is ideal. His confidence must be sky high.
“Is he ready to start? That’s down to manager of course.”
“Sensational” and “a handful”. The Premier League rivals both offered strong plaudits for Harry Kane, whose new nickname could be The Sensational Handful. I encourage you to adopt it.
Some are salivating at the prospect of Kane and Wayne Rooney lining up as England’s strike force (with Daniel Sturridge out injured). Do you think the young Kane is ready to shine on the international stage?
