WATCH: Time-lapse video of San Jose Earthquakes’ Avaya Stadium construction

The process of building a soccer-specific stadium — any stadium, for that matter — is truly fascinating, if you’re a nuts-and-bolts type dork like myself.

Having watched the day-by-day progress during the construction of Sporting Park in Kansas City from 2010 to 2011, the above video, which is a 90-second time-lapse of the construction of Avaya Stadium, the San Jose Earthquakes’ new home, is right up my alley.

What’s particularly interesting is that you’ll notice the part of the process where the land is being prepared — whether the clearing of space, digging for drainage or irrigation, or pouring the stadium’s foundation — takes just as long, if not longer, than the actual erection of the stadium.
