Report: Man United target Nathaniel Clyne won’t decide his future until summer

Even before receiving his third England cap on Friday, Nathaniel Clyne has been a man in demand for months now, as the 23-year-old Soutampton right back has long been rumored a transfer target of Manchester United.

According to ESPN UK sources, Clyne has not only turned down a lucrative contract offer to extend his stay at Southampton, but has also told the club he won’t make any decisions regarding his future until the end of the current Premier League season.

Clyne’s current contract runs out at the end of the 2015-16 season, meaning this summer would be Southampton’s last chance to receive a transfer worthy of a player with both Clyne’s resume and potential.

Following a mass exodus of players last summer — Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Calum Chambers and Rickie Lambert, among others — Saints were expected to struggle after adding and integrating no less than six regular first-team players. Instead, Ronald Koeman’s first season in charge at St. Mary’s Stadium has been a huge success, with the club currently occupying sixth place in the Premier League, just six points out of the top four.
