There have been plenty of rumors linking PSV Eindhoven midfielder Memphis Depay to the Premier League, most notably to Manchester United, but according to his agent, they haven’t spoken to any teams about a summer move.
Speaking to Danish publication PLBOLD, Depay’s agent Kees Ploegsma of SEG International said, “There has been a lot of rumors, but he still has a contract with PSV, so for now he is in Eindhoven. We have not been in contact with any clubs.”
Depay played for Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal during the 2014 World Cup before van Gaal was hired at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old performed at a high level in Brazil, scoring two goals including a thunderbolt against Australia in the group stage.
Ploegsma said that while Depay and van Gaal have a good relationship, the two have not spoken since the team departed the 2014 tournament in the semifinals. They had good contact during the World Cup, but since then there has been no contact.”
The Dutch midfielder started on the wing during his country’s 1-1 Euro 2016 qualification draw with Turkey. He played the full 90 minutes and was on the field when Kas Jan Huntelaar scored the equalizer in the second minute of added time. His international teammate Daley Blind is a Manchester United player having transferred to Old Trafford this summer to join with van Gaal, and while Blind plays a deep midfield role for his new club, he moved to left-back for the national team, pairing with Depay on the left flank.
