Lionel Messi fans in the USA have been left pretty disappointed over the past week.
The 27-year-old Barcelona superstar missed Argentina’s 2-0 friendly win over El Salvador in Washington D.C. on Saturday with a lingering issue with his right foot and is unlikely to feature in the Albiceleste’s friendly with South American rivals Ecuador at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Tuesday.

Speaking to the media ahead of Tuesday’s game in East Rutherford, Argentina’s head coach Gerardo Martino confirmed that “there are more chances that he won’t play than he’ll be on the field” when asked about Messi’s fitness.
It is likely the No. 2 ranked team in the world won’t miss Messi too much on Tuesday, but fears over causing more damage than its worth has led Martino to take a cautious approach.
Barcelona’s fans will be happy to hear that, as a huge UEFA Champions League quarterfinal with Paris Saint-Germain awaits, plus a close race for the La Liga title in the final few months of the season before the Copa America in Chile this summer.
