Juventus defeats Fiorentina to advance to Coppa Italia final

After losing the first leg at home, Juventus travelled to Stadio Artemio Franchi where they defeated Fiorentina 3-0, advancing to the Coppa Italia final 4-2 on aggregate.

Despite winning three consecutive Serie A titles, Juventus has not raised the Coppa Italia trophy since the 1994-95 season.

The visitors went ahead inside 20 minutes when Alessandro Mati tapped home a rebound past Fiorentina goalkeeper Neto. Roberto Pereyra had his shot blocked by a defender and the rebound fell right to Mati, who scored his first goal for Juve since coming over on a loan in February.

Juve doubled the lead just on the brink of halftime, and this time it was Pereyra pouncing on a rebound. Neto made a great save on Alvaro Morata, but Pereyra was there at the back post to convert the second opportunity.

Leonardo Bonucci capped off the scoring with a rare goal from the center back, as he found room on the near post off a corner kick to volley home Juventus’ third and final tally.

This convincing win came without the help of Carlos Tevez, Paul Pogba, Andrea Pirlo and Stephan Lichtsteiner, as all four players missed out with injury.

Now into the finals of the Coppa Italia, Juventus is eyeing a treble. They hold a commanding 14 point lead in Serie A and face AS Monaco in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
