The above tackle that earned David Meyler a red card will cost Kyle Naughton his season.

The ex-Spurs and current Swansea City man was caught by Meyler’s slide to the ankle in Hull City’s 3-1 loss on Saturday.

There wasn’t a fracture, according to the BBC, but ligament damage will force Naughton off the field for six weeks.

Meyler will miss three matches as a result of the red card.

Swans boss Garry Monk was nicer than we’d be given the incident. From the BBC:

“I think it was a genuine 50-50 challenge,” said Monk.

“My initial reaction was it was a bad challenge, whether it was a red card or not I don’t know, but I don’t think there was any malice from the player [Meyler].

“He didn’t go in to hurt Kyle, but if your foot’s a little bit high and you go over the ball then you always run that risk [of getting sent off].”
