MLS Snapshot: Philadelphia Union 1-2 New England Revolution

The game in 100 words (or less:) The New England Revolution erased a first-half deficit, scoring twice in the second half to leave PPL Park with three points. Substitutes were the story for the visitors, as Teal Bunbury tallied a goal and assist off the bench, while Diego Fagundez added an assist of his own. A win for Philadelphia would have led the Union to third place in the Eastern Conference, but they squandered their lead and were outplayed in the second half. New England has won three of its last four matches and have gotten points in five straight.

Three moments that mattered

42′ — Maidana nets brilliant free kick — Cristian Maidana scored his first goal of the season with what may very well be his best of the season. The Argentine stepped up from over 30 yards out, hitting a bending free kick over the wall, off the post and in. Bobby Shuttleworth stood no chance in net as the Union went into the break with the lead.

64′ — Bunbury makes immediate impact for NE — Teal Bunbury came off the bench in the 61st minute and helped the Revolution equalize within five minutes. Bunbury collected on the right flank, nutmegged his defender and hit in a cross to the back post, where an unmarked Charlie Davies easily tapped home.

76′ — Bunbury gets a goal of his own — Jay Heaps’ substitutions paid off big in the second half, this time with Diego Fagundez finding Teal Bunbury. The 20-year-old Uruguyan raced down the right wing before finding an onrushing Bunbury in the box. Bunbury out-hustled Sheanon Williams for the cross and completed the Revs’ comeback.
