The collapse of Newcastle United continued today with a 3-1 loss at home to Tottenham Hotspur. It was the Magpies sixth straight league defeat.
St. James’ Park was quieter as usual as thousands of the home supporters boycotted the match, protesting owner Mike Ashley and his management of the club.

Fans are upset with Ashley as the billionaire is making profits off the club but has done little to help the team on the pitch. Newcastle reported over $50 million in the club account at the end of 2014, yet spent nothing in the January transfer window.
The Magpies sit 14th in the Premier League, seven points clear of the drop. However, with the club’s recent run of form, relegation could be a real possibility.
Newcastle was in the top half of the table after Boxing Day when Alan Pardew left St. James’ Park to manage Crystal Palace. John Carver was handed the reins for the rest of the season, and has seen the club fall down the table.
Under Carver, Newcastle has dropped nine of 14 matches, including the six-game skid they are currently on.
Robbie Earle says Carver looks like “a broken man” and thinks he will be out at Newcastle at the end of the season. Earle also believes the club could go the rest of the season without earning a single point. If that were to happen, relegation could be the end result.
In his post-match interview below, you can see that Carver looks defeated. He says Newcastle got what they deserved in the loss to Spurs, and calls on the supporters to come out for their next match against Swansea City. It doesn’t matter if 50,000 or 5,000 show up to St. James’ Park, Newcastle needs the three points either way.
