Sacramento Republic’s Rodrigo Lopez was named USL player of the week for his pair of three goals and one assist last week, but it’s one in particular that will haunt Whitecaps 2 goalkeeper Spencer Richey for a while.

Holding a 1-0 lead late in the match on April 15, Lopez spotted Richey well off his line and used the windy night to his advantage, sending a shot in from his own half.
Mexican-born Lopez, 27, represented the US at youth levels but has been well-traveled in his club career. Sacramento is off to a great start to the USL season.
