Report: Newcastle reunion in London? Pardew calling for $15 million Krul

Things were solid for Newcastle United in late November. The Northeast England side sat fifth in the Premier League table, with goalkeeper Tim Krul backstopping Alan Pardew’s unit to a string of five-straight wins.

But Krul picked up an ankle injury in training, Pardew was lured to Crystal Palace and the club now finds itself without assurances of Premier League safety. Yes, their schedule and 7-point lead on the bottom three says they should stay up, but life is upside-down again at depth shallow Newcastle.

And with once-condemned Palace shooting past the Magpies on the table, Pardew wants a reunion with the star Dutch keeper.

The Sun reports that Palace is weighing up a $15 million bid for Krul, who might seem an upgrade over Julian Speroni, the longtime Palace keeper out of contract this summer but a favorite of the Selhurst Park faithful.

Krul has also been linked with Southampton, as Dutch manager Ronald Koeman is said to be interested in the keeper and teammate Daryl Janmaat.

Given the fan protests, manager uncertainty and overall on-field struggles at St. James Park, it could be a summer of tumult at Newcastle. And given the Magpies’ current slate, even a club the size of Newcastle could go down if Krul and others leave Tyneside.
