A “good performance” and a “good result,” and a “bad performance” and a “bad result,” in sports is often times separated by the finest of margins. For instance, there’s Aston Villa’s Tim Sherwood, who’s absolutely certain — and probably right — that his side should have come out on top against Manchester City on Saturday.
Instead, Villa lost to Man City, 3-2. Which would mean that Manuel Pellegrini should be delighted with the way his team played because they picked up the three points, right? Wrong.
Pellegrini, speaking in his post-game television interview (above video), even went so far as to say it was “one of our worst games of the season,” but was just as quick to point out that they’ve been on the other end of that same stick a number of times this season:
“In their two goals, we made important mistakes. Also, they made mistakes in our goals. But we played against a team that played very well.
“For our team, it was one of our worst games of the season, in possession. We lost so many balls during the game that it was very easy for Aston Villa to have possession of the ball, but so many games that we have 70 or 75 percent possession of the ball, and we lost. I think today we didn’t play so well with the ball, but we have a spirit, a fight to win.”
