Stoke City 1-1 Sunderland: Black Cats enter drop zone despite point


Dick Advocaat’s Sunderland side has sunk into the relegation zone after Charlie Adam’s 27th minute goal boosted home Stoke City to a 1-1 draw on Saturday at the Britannia Stadium.

Wins from Hull City and Leicester City drop Sunderland to 18th place on the table, while Stoke is ninth. The Potters are comfortably mid-table, three points back of 8th and three points ahead of 10th.

Connor Wickham had given Sunderland a first-minute lead when he was Johnny-on-the-spot for a Asmir Begovic bobbled save, but the Black Cats could only watch as Adam scored another dream of a goal.

USMNT defender/midfielder Geoff Cameron left the game in the 87th minute with an injury.

Stoke out attempted Sunderland 23-15, and held a 61-39 edge in possession.

Stoke pushed the pedal to the floor in the second half with the introduction of Peter Odemwingie and Peter Crouch, but neither Peter could pot a winner for the hosts.
