If Newcastle United can’t snap out of its funk on Saturday morning, who knows when their misery will end (Watch live at 7:45 a.m. ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra)?

Reeling Newcastle travels to King Power Stadium to face a Leicester City side playing its third match in a week, but that will be little consolation for the moribund Magpies.

Once left for dead, Leicester has climbed out of the Premier League drop zone and into 17th, four points back of No. 14 Newcastle. While the visitors have lost seven-straight, Leicester’s mid-week setback to Chelsea was its first loss in five outings. The Foxes are on the PL’s fourth-best form after wins against Burnley, Swansea City, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.

What they’re saying

Leicester boss Nigel Pearson on the run-in to safety: “I think it’s important for us to go into the final few games with our destiny in our own hands,” said Pearson. “That’s what we’re aiming to do. It’s not a case of now changing the plan. That’s how we intend to go about these next games. We’ve four left and three at home but it would be wide of the mark to assume that some games will be easier than others. When you play against sides that are also fighting for their lives, it throws up an element that makes it difficult to predict. We need to make sure our performances remain of a high standard.”

Newcastle manager John Carver on a sold-out away section“It’s fantastic, we need that support. We need them to be right behind us and I’m sure that they will be. This time we need to give them something to shout about.”

Prediction

David Nugent could be a key absence for the Foxes, and the third match in a week could be a lot to handle. But will Newcastle even show up? It seems little to ask, but lately the Magpies have looked immune to passion. Call it 1-1 at the King Power, and the point could be enough to keep Newcastle up.
