Chelsea has been labeled boring. They have also been labeled Premier League champions.
According to Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini, that’s not enough, as the Chilean believes in the importance of playing “attractive football.”
Unfortunately for Pellegrini, his supposed “attractive” play has City going home with no silverware this season, while Chelsea has claimed two titles, the league and the Capital One Cup.
It’s important for the Premier League and for the fans to play attractive football.
This team continues as the most scoring team. That side is important, to continue winning in that sense.
They [Chelsea] won exactly the same that we won last year, but we scored 158 goals in the whole season. 101 in the Premier League, 57 in the Capital One Cup. I prefer to win that way.”
While Pellegrini may prefer to win with an attacking style of play, he has failed to win anything this season, and that doesn’t sit well at Manchester City. Despite claiming the title last year and almost certainly qualifying for the Champions League for next season, Pellegrini could be out of a job come summer.
Manchester City leads the Premier League with 71 goals scored this season, while Chelsea are second in the league with 69. So for all the talk from Pellegrini, the statistics don’t necessarily give him that much backing.
At the end of the day, the only numbers that matter are points, and Chelsea currently has 13 more than Manchester City. The Blues have clinched the Premier League title with three matches to play, and there’s nothing Pellegrini can say to change that.
