La Liga & Serie A roundup: Sevilla remains outside top-four; Cesena relegated

Catch up on all of Sunday’s action from Spain and Italy’s top flights.

Celta Vigo 1-1 Sevilla

Sevilla finds themselves three points out of the top-four after an away draw against Celta Vigo. Coming off of a big win over Fiorentina in the Europa League, Sevilla couldn’t find a way to beat Celta Vigo despite going ahead through Kevin Gameiro in the eighth minute. Celta equalized through a penalty kick just before the hour mark, and now it looks like Sevilla may have to win the Europa League to gain qualification in the Champions League next season.

Levante 2-2 Atletico Madrid

Fernando Torres scored a late equalizer for Atletico to earn a 2-2 draw away from home with Levante. The visitors twice found themselves down a goal, but tallies from Torres and Guilherme Siqueira helped inch Atletico closer to a Champions League berth. Currently third on the La Liga table, Diego Simeone’s men need one win from their final two matches to secure that spot in the Champions League.

ACF Fiorentina v AC Cesena - Serie A
Cesena joins Parma as two of three teams to be relegated from Serie A.

Cesena 2-3 Sassuolo

Cesena is headed back to Serie B after just one season in Italy’s top flight. Needing a win to keep their Serie A hopes alive, Cesena squandered a two-goal lead at home and lost to Sassuolo 3-2. The club has the fewest wins in the league with just four from 35 matches, and sits second from the bottom of the table.

Lazio 1-2 Inter Milan

Lazio failed to go second in the league after Inter Milan rattled off a 2-1 win at Stadio Olimpico. Hernanes scored twice for Inter, burying his former club that finished the match with nine men after red cards to Mauricio and Federico Marchetti. Lazio now sits in third, one point behind Roma on the table.
