The game in 100 words (or less): After opening the season on a seven-game road trip, Toronto’s home opener was spoiled by a 2-1 loss to the Houston Dynamo at the newly renovated BMO Field. Houston took the lead at the brink of halftime when Oscar Garcia followed up his own rebound from the penalty spot, before Will Bruin doubled that lead in the second half. Jozy Altidore tallied his first home goal in a Toronto shirt, but it wasn’t enough as the Dynamo took all three points.

Three moments that mattered

44′ — Oscar Garcia has penalty stopped, finishes rebound — Michael Bradley took down DaMarcus Beasley in the box for a clear penalty, with no complaints coming from Toronto. Oscar Garcia stepped up to the spot, but his weak shot was stopped by Chris Konopka. Garcia followed up his shot and scored off the rebound to give Houston a lead going into the break.

53′ — Bruin finishes off great run from Barnes — Houston went up 2-0 early in the second half following a great run from Giles Barnes. The Jamaican international raced up the left wing from his own half, just poking a ball through to Will Bruin, who made no mistake with the finish.

77′ — Jozy Altidore scores his first home goal for TOR — Finally back at the new and improved BMO Field, Jozy Altidore scored Toronto’s first home goal of the season to cut Houston’s lead to one. Jonathan Osorio came on as a substitute and crossed into the box, where Jozy Altidore snuck in unmarked between two defenders to easily head home.

Man of the match: Giles Barnes — The former Derby County and West Bromwich Albion attacker used his blazing speed to make a 75-yard counter-attacking run that set up the eventual game-winner from Will Bruin. The assist was Barnes’ first of the season, adding to his five goals on the year.
