The Obafemi Martins-less Seattle Sounders managed to pull off a slightly surprising 2-0 victory away to the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night. Into Martins’ starting place stepped Chad Barrett.
And it was Barrett — not Clint Dempsey, Lamar Neagle or Marco Pappa — who filled the goalscoring void with last year’s MLS MVP runner-up not in the lineup. It wasn’t one goal, but two. It wasn’t one stunning finish, but two. It wasn’t a point Barrett helped the Sounders to win, it was three.
In a big game — a rivalry game — with real standings and playoff implications, Barrett stepped into a huge moment and delivered unlike anyone else in Week 11 of the 2015 MLS season, and for that reason, he is the MLS Player of the Week.
