We are now through 12 weeks of the 2015 Major League Soccer season, and one man is threatening to run away with the league’s Golden Boot race before May even ends. That man is Columbus Crew SC forward, and my MLS Player of the Week for Week 12, Kei Kamara.
Kamara bagged another brace on Friday night (his third of the season already) in leading Crew SC to a 2-2 home draw with the Chicago Fire. Kamara’s nine goals are two more than anyone else in the league through the first three months of the season (Clint Dempsey and Chris Wondolowski both have seven), and just over half of Crew SC’s total tally on the season (17).
Kamara’s first goal against the Fire (below video) looks simple enough on the surface, until you remember that Kamara played as a winger for Sporting Kansas City from 2010 to 2014, so making smart, dangerous runs as a center forward probably still isn’t second nature to him just yet. On the second, Kamara’s poaching instincts were on display, as the 30-year-old Sierra Leonean hung around Jon Busch’s back post and capitalized on an extremely free header.
