Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure, his agent confirm stay at the Etihad

Many teams in Europe would jump at the prospecting of adding a high-caliber player like Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.

But based on the beliefs of his agent, Dimitri Seluk, the Ivorian–scorer of 10 goals in 29 Premier League games this season–is staying put at the Ethiad despite previously rampant rumors that the midfielder would exit in the summer.

Both Inter Milan and AC Milan were supposedly interested in bringing the 32-year-old to Italy, and adding fuel to the fire, Seluk claimed earlier this month that Toure was “90 percent certain” to leave City.

Toure failed to carry over his consistency from City’s championship year to this season, and expressed frustration that he no longer felt wanted at the club. He also said that increased wage would have no bearing on his temperament.

Just eleven days ago, an Inter Milan executive claimed a deal for the ex-Barcelona man was close.

Now, a turn of events has seemingly taken place, as Sky Blues owner Sheikh Mansour sat down with Toure and emphasized the footballer’s significance to the club.

From EuroSport.com:

Seluk said in the Sunday Mirror: “Yaya is staying – because Sheikh Mansour told him he must stay.

“Mansour told Yaya that he is still a very important player and that he was the first big player to join City after the takeover….He told him that City wouldn’t even discuss a sale.”

“This is good. People have tried to say that Yaya only wanted more money, but it was never about money. It was only about respect.”

Toure later back up these comments with some of his own, from the Manchester Evening News:

“I will definitely stay. The fans don’t have to be worried.

“My target this year is to try to do everything possible to make this team improve well and I am sure with my experience, maybe I hope, with the players coming in a couple of weeks, a couple of months, definitely it is going to be a strong City next year.”

It was a seesaw affair regarding this stay or departure. But Mansour, likening City’s hope for glory with Toure’s interest to be great, definitely swayed the four-time African Footballer of the Year by promising an active transfer window that will translate to dominance.

Mansour just tried to make Yaya feel at home. Remember his birthday incident last year? Yaya expected a cake, handshake or at least some flowers.
