Monday’s transfer rumor roundup: Schneiderlin to Manchester United, Falcao to Chelsea

Morgan Schnedierlin is said to be at the center of an epic tug of war between Manchester United and Arsenal. Southampton’s French international midfielder, 25, has recently said he will only leave Saints for a team in the UEFA Champions League. Well, both United and Arsenal are in the UCL. Schneiderlin is likely to cost upwards of $40 million and the silky midfield destroyer had another sublime season for Saints after he was told he couldn’t leave last summer. According to the Daily Mirror in the UK, United are keen to sign Schneiderlin and sit him in front of their back four.

Former United loan striker Radamel Falcao could be heading back to the Premier League, as the AS Monaco forward is reportedly being chased  by Premier League champions Chelsea. Falcao, 29, scored just four times in 29 appearances for United last season and Louis van Gaal declined to buy the striker permanently at the end of his loan. But according to multiple reports the Colombian international is willing to take a pay-cut to join Jose Mourinho’s side next season. Falcao will captain Los Cafateros at the Copa America in Chile this summer and needs a stellar tournament to put his nightmare season at Old Trafford behind him and put himself back in the shop window.

The Independent newspaper in the UK claims that Burnley striker Danny Ings, who will become a free agent this summer, will hold talks with Liverpool this week. Ings, 22, scored 11 times during his debut season in the PL with the relegated Clarets. The England U-21 striker is eager to remain in the top flight and along with Liverpool, north London side Tottenham Hotspur are said to be interested in securing Ings’ services this summer when he officially becomes a free agent on July 1.

Crystal Palace is ready to make a shock move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to the Daily Mail. Cabaye, 29, played for current Palace manage Alan Pardew at Newcastle and has failed to nail down a staring spot in Paris since arriving at the Parc des Princes in 2014. The Mail claims that Cabaye would cost Palace around $15 million this summer.

Finally, Atletico Madrid Toby Aldeweireld is attracting plenty of interest from the PL’s big boys after impressing during his season-long loan at Southampton. Aldeweireld, 26, is a target for Chelsea according to the Daily Mirror. The central defender, who can also play at right back and in central midfield, is expected to cost upwards of $20 million and both Tottenham and Manchester City are believed to be interested in signing the Belgian international. Saints had an option to buy Aldweireld for $11 million but Atletico inserted a clause in his loan deal that they could cancel any permanent transfer to Saints by paying the PL club $2 million. It is believed they will trigger that clause.
