Monday’s Transfer Rumor Roundup: De Bruyne to Manchester City, Martial to Tottenham

According to the Daily Telegraph, AS Monaco’s teenager striker Anthony Martial is a target for Tottenham Hotspur. Martial, 19, is believed to be worth around $30 million and the Telegraph claims that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has already held talks with Monaco about signing the talented French striker. With both Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado firing blanks at White Hart Lane, Pochettino badly needs a backup striker who can take the pressure off Harry Kane up top. Martial provided an assist for Monaco in their shock 3-1 victory over Spurs’ north London rivals Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League last season and played for the same amateur team as Thierry Henry in the suburbs of Paris. Comparisons have already been made between Martial and Henry. That’s probably why the price to snap up the former Lyon forward is already so high.

The Daily Mirror believes that Kevin De Bruyne could arrive back in the Premier League, as Manchester City is keen to splash $60 million to land the Belgian winger. De Bruyne, 23, left Chelsea last summer for Wolfsburg and has been ripping it up in the Bundesliga and for the Belgian national team. De Bruyne has admitted he wouldn’t mind a move to England, Spain, France or elsewhere in Germany. Not quite a “come and get me plea” but seems to be some legs in this one… As well as City being interested, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich have also been rumored to be courting De Bruyne but it would have to be a good deal to tempt him away as Wolfsburg finished second in the Bundesliga and won the German Cup in a hugely successful 2014-15 campaign.

As their chances of signing Toby Alderweireld continue to diminish  — his loan deal from Atletico Madrid has expired and nobody is sure if he will stay at Saints, return to Atleti or go elsewhere — Southampton is said to be turning their attention to Mexican international defender Hector Moreno. Several outlets claim the towering center back, who currently plays for Espanyol in La Liga, is interesting Ronald Koeman. The 27-year-old would reinforce Saints’ backline considerably and be given the chance play Europa League soccer next season but Arsenal are said to also be interested. Moreno played at the 2014 World Cup for Mexico and has spent the last four seasons in Spain with Espanyol. His price-tag is believed to be upwards of $13 million.
