France followed up their 4-3 loss to Belgium last weekend with another empty performance as they fell 1-0 to Albania in Elbasan.
Ergys Kace bagged a free-kick just minutes before halftime and the French had no response, as the visitors produced just four shots on target all match.
Luckily for the French, they host Euro 2016 and therefore qualify automatically, so all these matches ultimately mean little, but with three losses in their last four matches, worry is beginning to creep into the minds of the Euro hosts.
France came closest with 15 minutes to go when Mathieu Valbuena nearly curled in a free-kick of his own, but a lineup featuring Olivier Giroud, Alexandre Lacazette, Antoine Griezmann, and Paul Pogba was listless in attack. With just one year to go, manager Didier Deschampes will be sweating his team’s ability to put together a complete game.
“We were not aggressive enough against a well-organized team fighting for every ball,” Deschamps said after the match. “We’re coming up short in too many areas to hope to play at a high level.”
The French have a 2-0 win over Denmark on their recent resume back on March 29, but sandwiching that are the two recent losses plus a 3-1 defeat to Brazil in March.
