MLS Snapshot: Seattle Sounders 3-0 FC Dallas

The game in 100 words (or less): The Seattle Sounders (29 points) moved back into the lead for the 2015 Supporters’ Shield with a 3-0 home victory over FC Dallas on Saturday night, courtesy of goals scored by Lamar Neagle, Obafemi Martins and Leonardo Gonzalez. Even without midfield engine Osvaldo Alonso (hamstring strain) in the gameday 18, Seattle controlled the game and pinned FCD deep inside their own half for prolonged stretches. Despite registering neither a goal nor an assist, Clint Dempsey looked in mid-season form after not making the trek to Europe (birth of child) for a pair of US national team friendlies this week, and the Sounders were much better for it. FCD are now winless in five games, while the Sounders have won three out of four.

Three moments that mattered

28′ — Castillo weaves into the box, smashes the near post — Fabian Castillo turned Tyrone Mears this way and turned him that way, creating acres of space and a clear path into the Sounder penalty area. From three, the Colombia unleashed a fierce shot from 15 yards out, but came up with nothing but post.

55′ — Neagle curls one inside the far post — Neagle recovered a loose ball 25 yards from goal before turning and bending a beautiful ball inside the far post of Dan Kennedy for the game’s opening goal.

73′ — Martins adds the second for Seattle — Martins deftly controlled the high, lopping ball back into the box at Kennedy’s left-hand post, held off Kyle Bekker to create a half-yard of space and ripped a low shot inside the near post to make the score 2-0.

Man of the match: Lamar Neagle — Scored the game-winning goal, putting his only shot of the game on target and in the back of the net, while linking up quite well with Dempsey when played out of position once again.
