Transfer gossip: Tottenham looking at Iker Casillas in potential three-team keeper swap

In the world of soccer, there’s nothing like the gossip and rumors that swirl around the transfer window.

Today, the speculation involves Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, whose future at the Bernabeu has been in doubt for some time now.

One of the most legendary players in Real’s history, Casillas’ form has dropped off the past two seasons and it is clear his time at the club is coming to an end.

Reports out of Europe stated the two parties had agreed to part ways this summer, with Real keen to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, who has been less than open about his future plans.

Should de Gea choose to leave Old Trafford, Tottenham’s netminder Hugo Lloris has been tabbed as the Spaniard’s replacement.

That would leave Spurs in need of a keeper themselves, and that’s where Iker Casillas comes in.

The Daily Mail reports that Casillas is interested in a move to the Premier League should he leave Real, and with Tottenham being a London-based club fighting for a spot in the Champions League, White Hart Lane could be a possible destination for the 2010 World Cup champion.

When you break it all down, the futures of Casillas and Lloris basically depend on David de Gea’s decision to sign an extension with Manchester United. De Gea has asserted himself as one of the premier goalkeepers in the world, and at 24-years-old, has almost a decade ahead of him to continue to perform at the highest level.

Don’t expect these rumors to die down anytime soon, as this looks to be one of the most interesting transfer talks all summer.
