Aston Villa launch investigation after images of Jack Grealish emerge

An internal investigation has been launched by Aston Villa, as it appears that promising 19-year-old midfielder Jack Grealish has been pictured lying passed out in the middle of a street in the Spanish island of Tenerife.

Not my idea of enjoying a summer off, but each to their own…

Grealish, who burst onto the scene with Villa during the 2014-15 season after Tim Sherwood’s arrival at the club, has been touted as a future star for the English national team and recently turned down the chance for a full call-up to the Republic of Ireland national team despite representing them at youth level.

Despite the widespread acclaim for his soccer ability, the teenager may have some explaining to do regarding his off-field conduct as a holidaymaker in the Canary Island of Tenerife, a popular vacation spot for Brits, snapped photos of Grealish looking to be passed out on the pavement in the middle of the street with nobody around him.

After seeing the photos for themselves, Villa released the following short statement on its website:

“The club is aware of the photographs of Jack Grealish currently circulating. We will be meeting with the player but any action will remain an internal matter. There will be no further comment from the club.”

Below are the images which may well land Grealish in hot water as they were uploaded to Twitter on Sunday.

With the conduct of several Premier League players including Jack Wilshere and Raheem Sterling called into question in recent months following photos shared on social media showing them smoking and taking legal highs, we are given another reminder that the public eye is always on these young Premier League superstars even if they are having harmless fun and a few drinks with friends.

Clearly Grealish looks to have more than a few drinks in these photos, but can we really lambaste the Villa midfielder for having a night out and celebrating what has been a breakout season for the teenager?

I’ll let you be the judge of that…
