In the tie of the round, Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls will host the New York Cosmos of the NASL in a derby, while long-time MLS foes the LA Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes will do battle at Avaya Stadium. Only two non-MLS sides have made it through to the last 16, as the Cosmos fly the flag for the NASL after their penalty shoout win over NYCFC and newly formed Charlotte Independence are the USL’s sole representatives as they face a tricky trip to play the Chicago Fire after knocking out the New England Revolution in round four.
The last 16 games will be played on either June 30 or July 31.

With the draw split up into four regions – East, South, Central and West — local rivalries will once again take center stage and a draw was made to see which region would host the semifinal game as one team from each of the East, South, Central and West will make it to the final four.
The team who make it to the semifinal stage from the East region will host the South in one semifinal match, while the team who wins the Central region will host the winners of the West in the other semifinal.
A draw will be made before the semifinal matches to determine which team will host the Open Cup final which is slated to be played on either Sept. 29 or 30.
