The game in 100 words (or less): Reminder: not a single one of us knows anything about MLS. (Yes, that includes myself, as always.) Sure, the Seattle Sounders were without Clint Dempsey, Obafemi Martins, Osvaldo Alonso and Gonzalo Pineda during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to the San Jose Earthquakes, but this was nothing close to the wounded and weakened Sounders side we saw give Sporting Kansas City all they could handle just two weeks ago. Matias Perez Garcia put in a dominant performance for the Earthquakes, setting up the game’s opening goal and scoring one of his own a little later. With Dempsey (three games – suspension) and Martins (3-6 weeks – groin) out of the picture for more than a little bit, from where are the goals going to come for Seattle?

Three moments that mattered
28′ — Nyassi hammers one far post for a ‘Quakes lead — Dylan Remick got himself into a world of trouble on the right wing, giving the ball away and then being woefully out of position. The ‘Quakes’ counter began down the left wing and ended up at the feet of Perez Garcia in the center, where he fed Sanna Nyassi through down the right. Nyassi’s finish was beyond exquisite.
52′ — Seattle’s promising counter amounts to nothing — With the game still just 1-0, the Sounders’ best chance for an equalizer came in the 52nd minute, when a counter-attacking opportunity presented itself with Marco Pappa and a pair of teammates attacking acres of space, but Pappa’s eventual through ball carried Cristian Roldan well wide of the six-yard box and his shot was skied into the crowd.
73′ — Perez Garcia’s Goal of the Week makes it 2-0 — A word of advice for the Sounders: at some point, someone should probably make a stronger challenge on Perez Garcia. Otherwise, he’ll waltz his way into the penalty area, cut back to the inside and float a curler into the upper-90, just like this.
Man of the match: Matias Perez Garcia — A goal and an assist for the 5-foot-5 Argentine, and suddenly
