Jamaica lost to Argentina 1-0 yesterday and was eliminated from the 2015 Copa America with three losses from three matches, without scoring a goal.

But that didn’t stop striker Deshorn Brown from grabbing his phone from the sideline and snapping a quick selfie with Lionel Messi after the match.

Brown played college ball at the University of Central Florida and scored 26 goals over two seasons for the Colorado Rapids, before being sold to Norwegian side Valerenga earlier this year.

He took some flack from the media for the selfie considering Jamaica’s poor showing in the tournament, but Brown said it was simply out of admiration for the best player in the world.

I had thought about it before the match so that’s why I took [the phone] to the bench. As soon as [the match] finished, I took the picture.

Messi is the best in the world, a star, and that’s a photo I’ll have as a souvenir all my life.”

When asked about the incident, Messi said he was surprised when Brown asked for a photo, but was also honored.

It may be rare to see, but you would have to imagine many other players wished they had done the same after playing against one of the greatest of all-time.
