For those hoping to see Jackson Martinez threaten the Premier League’s best defenses, you’ll have to settle for that continuing in the UEFA Champions League.
Despite links with Arsenal and AC Milan, Jackson is set to sign a four-year-deal with Atletico Madrid, according to his agent. Porto’s deadly Colombian attacker has scored 92 goals across all competitions in three seasons since joining from Liga MX side Chiapas.

He was the leading scorer in Portugal’s top flight all three seasons.
Atletico will trigger Jackson’s $39 million release clause to bring him into La Liga.
From the Daily Mirror, citing AS:
“It was finalised today,” Pompeo is said to have told the paper. “We want to thank Milan for their interest right up until the end, we feel very honoured by it, but you can’t be in two places at once.
“It [Atletico] is a very big club, which has done important things in the league and in Europe.
“Jackson is going there to also achieve great things and to bring the best out of himself to become even better. That’s his dream and he’s very excited. He’s really happy.”
With Mario Mandzukic out the door, Martinez will join a potent Atleti attack which includes Antoine Griezmann, Koke, Arda Turan and Fernando Torres. It’s a good move for Diego Simeone’s side, even if a four-year deal for a 28-year-old doesn’t often hold its value.
