According to the Daily Telegraph, Arsenal have now moved into pole position to sign FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez. The Colombian international, 28, looked set to seal a move to AC Milan this summer after apparently being talked into joining AC by Colombia teammate Radamel Falcao, but Martinez could now move to the Emirates instead.

He is pacey and can hold the ball up as a lone man up top, but the Gunners already have Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck around to do that. Martinez will cost $37 million as he has a release clause in his contract. He has scored 92 goals in 132 games for Porto since arriving in Portugal in 2012 and Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is a big admirer of his talents. Is Martinez the 30-goal a season striker Arsenal need to challenge Chelsea for the Premier League title next season?
The Sun newspaper claims that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is confident of sealing a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Mateo Kovacic. The Croatian international, 21, excelled for Inter last season but it is believed Liverpool could sign the playmaker for $21 million this summer. Fans of Internazionale would be reluctant to see Kovacic to leave, especially with Geoffrey Kondogbia arriving from AS Monaco to strengthen the midfield of Roberto Mancini’s side further. Kovacic is highly rated but with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic around do the Reds really need another ball-playing attacking midfielder?
Another rumor from the Sun claims that Sunderland will smash their transfer record to sign PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum for $22.5 million. The 24-year-old excelled for Dutch champs PSV alongside Memphis Depay last season and Sunderland’s Dutch boss Dick Advocaat is hoping he can persuade Wijnaldum to join the Black Cats. The Dutch international midfielder scored 18 times for PSV last season and added five assists. Goal-shy Sunderland scored just 31 times in the PL last season.
Rounding things up, the Daily Mail says that Manchester City are keeping tabs on Chilean midfielder Charles Aranguiz and Manuel Pellegrini wants to make a move to bring his countryman to the Etihad Stadium. Aranguiz, 26, currently plays for Internacional in Brazil but at just $12 million the box-to-box midfielders would represent a move cheaper alternative than Paul Pogba, Fabian Delph and Jack Wilshere who have all been linked with a move to City.
Aranguiz — who scored twice for Chile in their 5-0 demolition of Bolivia at the Copa America last week — can play in the holding role, in the No. 10 position or on the right wing. Sound like anybody else? Yeah, he could well be a direct replacement for James Milner. His pedigree as an energetic and tough midfielder could be exactly what City needs alongside Yaya Toure and Fernandinho.
