Knee injury forces Brad Davis out of Gold Cup; USMNT set to add Greg Garza

The Associated Press is reporting a long-standing right bone bruise will keep Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis out of the upcoming Gold Cup.

The same report says Greg Garza will take his spot, at least in theory. Garza will need to be cleared for the roster, though he is joining the team for Friday’s friendly against Group C competitor Guatemala.

Davis, 33, has been capped 17 times, including the group stage match against Germany at the 2014 World Cup. He has not appeared since for the U.S.

Liga MX fullback Garza, 23, has seven caps himself, all coming since the World Cup. The Texas-born defender is with Club Atlas, on loan from Tijuana.
