Over in Germany, Bayern Munich have signed Brazilian midfielder Douglas Costa from Shakthar Donetsk for $30 million. Douglas, 24, scored 29 goals in 149 league games for the Ukrainian powerhouses but has now signed a five-year deal with Bayern. Speculation regarding the future of Bastian Schweinsteiger will continue, as Manchester United are reportedly chasing Bayern’s legendary midfielder.

A reported target for plenty of PL clubs in the past, Colombian forward Jackson Martinez looks to be heading to Atletico Madrid as Diego Simeone’s club met the $38 million release clause in his contract at FC Porto. Martinez, 28, has been the leading scoring in Portugal’s top-flight in each of the past three seasons since arriving from Liga MX and his arrival will fill the void left by Mario Mandzukic at the Vicente Calderon, as he joined Juventus in June.

Bournemouth have signed veteran defender Sylvain Distin on a free transfer from Everton. Distin, 37, will bolster the Cherries’ defense as Eddie Howe prepares for their first season in the Premier League. He joins Artur Boruc, Adam Federici, Josh King and Tyrone Mings as Bournemouth’s new signings.

Along the south coast, Southampton confirmed they’ve terminated the contract of Dani Osvaldo. The Italian international, 29, was Saints’ record signing when he arrived in 2013 from AS Roma for $22 million but he played just 13 times for the club and scored three goals before being loaned out to Juventus, Inter Milan and Boca Juniors after a training ground bust up with Jose Fonte. Osvaldo has been linked with a move to Major League Soccer in the past.
