Inter Milan adds Miranda as rebuild continues at San Siro

Miranda’s anticipated Premier League move isn’t happening, as the 30-year-old center back is leaving Atletico Madrid for Inter Milan in a $15 million move.

He’s the latest addition for Roberto Mancini at the San Siro, with Monaco midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia joining in a $45 million deal and Granada defender Jeison Murillo purchased for nearly $9 million.

After a run of five-straight titles ended in 2010, Inter has finished second, sixth, ninth, fifth and eighth in Serie A. Mancini took over during last season’s rough ride, and the club has been tipped for big name additions like Yaya Toure and Kondogbia. The latter has arrived, and Miranda is a solid pick-up.

From the BBC:

“Miranda is another great addition to Roberto Mancini’s squad for our new Inter,” said the Italian club’s president Erick Thohir.

“He is as eager as we are to get started on our new adventure.”

Neither club disclosed the size of the fee involved but Spanish media reported the deal was worth up to £10.6m.

How high can Inter rise in a mercurial Serie A? Surely Juventus, Napoli and Roma remain the class of the league, but joining their ranks is possible considering no European competition. If another difference maker like Kondogbia arrives? All bets are off.
