Hours after reaching her second World Cup final with the U.S. national team, veteran striker Abby Wambach jumped on the Dan Patrick Show to discuss how she is feeling.
Wambach, 35, was reduced to a spot on the subs bench in the USWNT’s 2-0 semifinal win over Germany in Montreal, and revealed that she is adjusting to her new role as an impact player.
The 2012 World Player of the Year also told Dan that she wants to face Japan in the final, as there is a little bit of unfinished business to attend to after the U.S. lost to the Japanese in the 2011 World Cup final in a penalty shootout.
“I’m not afraid to play any team. We wanted to play Germany because we wanted to play the best in the world because when we leave this tournament we want to feel like we are the world champions. In order to do that you have to beat the best teams… Of course, it would make for a fairytale ending in terms of playing Japan in the final.”
