Bobby Wood has a new club, but not a new league.
The 22-year-old USMNT striker and hero of wins versus Germany and the Netherlands will start another new adventure this summer after agreeing to a three-year-deal with Union Berlin in 2.Bundesliga.
Wood has been capped eight times for the U.S., scoring twice, but his club history is more complicated. The Hawaiian-born player was with 1860 Munich, but loaned to third division German side Erzgebirge Aue last season.
Wood made debut with 1860’s senior team in January 2011 against MSV Duisburg. He spent the second half of last season on loan to Erzgebirge Aue, which was relegated to the third division.
Wood has scored six goals and set up six more in 59 German second division games.
Regular football is the key here. Union plays a number of preseason fixtures, including a July 18 visit from Crystal Palace, before opening its proper campaign.
