Real Madrid rejects FC Porto bid for Iker Casillas

Iker Casillas is still a goalkeeper for Real Madrid, despite his desire to move on from the Bernabeu.

The man with more than 700 appearances for the Spanish giants is almost certainly going to leave Real, but the question remains as to where he will end up.

Earlier today, reports out of Europe penned the keeper for a move to FC Porto, but now it looks like Real has rejected an offer from the Portuguese champions.

Casillas’ agent had told the Portuguese media that he was interested in the Porto move, who are coached by Julen Lopetegui, who himself was a goalkeeper for Real Madrid and the Spanish national team.

Iker is interested in Porto and Porto are interested in Iker. We hope Madrid facilitate his departure.

Madrid have an offer and they know what Casillas wants.”

Spanish radio station COPE reports that Porto’s offer was for one-third of Casillas’ current salary of more than $13 million at Real, with Madrid willing to pay another third of that. Real has asked Casillas to cut the remaining money to make the deal work, but the goalkeeper did not agree.

Casillas has made the second most appearances in Real Madrid history and has won five La Liga and three Champions League titles during his tenure at the Bernabeu. Real would like to send Casillas to his club of choice given his legendary status in Madrid, but are unwilling to pay such a large portion of his salary.
