With Robin van Persie on the brink of sealing his move to Fenerbache from Manchester United, the Red Devils are short of strikers. Hence the reason they’ve been linked with 27 (there or there abouts) strikers in the gossip columns on Friday.

Multiple outlets claim that United will look to Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain as a replacement for RVP. Cavani, 28, cost PSG $72 million when he joined from Napoli in 2013 and despite the Uruguayan striker having to play out of his preferred central role to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic since joining Les Parisiens, he has still scored 56 goals in 96 games for PSG. Cavani isn’t the only top class striker to be linked with United…

Thomas Muller is another forward linked with the Red Devils and the Daily Star say United are “stepping up their pursuit” of the German forward and he is their No.1 target. Muller, 25, has had clashes with current Bayern boss Pep Guardiola over the past  12 months despite helping Bayern to their third-straight Bundesliga title. Muller was given his big chance for Bayern by Louis van Gaal back in 2009 and hasn’t looked back since.

Bayern’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed that no deal had been discussed between the two club to swap Bastian Schweinsteiger for Angel di Maria, and that Muller and Mario Gotze haven’t been discussed in a part-exchange. Muller is a predator in and around the box, scoring 121 times in 302 games for Bayern and 27 times in 63 outings for the German national team. That’s exactly what United need with only Wayne Rooney and James Wilson as recognized strikers at the club. Muller is expected to cost close to $100 million if Bayern are to let him go.

Elsewhere, PSV Eindhoven midfielder Georginio Wjnaldum is reportedly in Newcastle to have a medical ahead of a $20 million move from the Dutch champions. Wjnaldum is a Dutch international and would become Steve McClaren’s first signing as Magpies boss. Newcastle want to get the deal wrapped up so Wjnaldum can join them on their U.S. tour next week.
