The game in 100 words (or less): List of key players Orlando City SC were without during their 2-0 defeat at the hands of FC Dallas on Saturday night: Kaka, Brek Shea, Cyle Larin, Kevin Molino and Darwin Ceren. As one would imagine, the Lions struggled to created much of anything at all (five shots, zero on target), while FCD were the vastly superior side from minute 1 to minute 90. It continues to be a bummer when MLS shrinks rosters from 30 players down to 28, as well as when the league plays right through international tournaments as if they’re not happening, but I guess that’s just what Orlando City get for having the ambition to sign good players, right? Mauro Diaz and David Texeira registered the only goals on the night.

Three moments that mattered
45+1′ — Castillo tripped in the box, Diaz converts the PK — Fabian Castillo is lightning-quick, which means one second the ball is somewhere, and the next it’s long gone, though that doesn’t mean the challenge you’ve chosen to make in that split-second can be undone. Ultimately, you take him down — this time inside the penalty area — and are whistled for the foul. In this instance, Mauro Diaz converted with aplomb.
56′ — Ribeiro scores for OCSC, but the offside flag is up — Here’s the thing about this controversial sequence in which Orlando City had briefly equalized: it’s the correct call. If you watch the below video, you’ll be shown one extremely deceiving freeze-frame which was nowhere near the point at which the ball was played. Despite the home broadcast’s best efforts, you can’t make a right call a wrong one with selective editing.
64′ — Castillo and Ulloa cleverly combine to create Texeira’s goal — Castillo’s also not a terrible passer these days — it’s something he’s added to his game over the last 12 months — which means he can pick out runners into the box, like Victor Ulloa, who subsequently crossed for David Texeira, who redirected with ease to make the score 2-0.
Man of the match: Matt Hedges — It wasn’t a thrilling performance from FCD attacking-wise, but defensively they were smothering, and Hedges was the ring leader in defensive dominance (11 interceptions and two clearances).
Orlando City SC: Hall, Boden, St Ledger (Collin 42′), Hines, Ramos, Heath (Okugo 46′), Higuita, Neal, Ribeiro, Avila (Mwanga 71′), Rivas
FC Dallas: Kennedy, Hollingshead, Hedges, Loyd, Harris, Ulloa, Acosta, Castillo, Diaz, Barrios (Escobar 75′), Texeira (Zendejas 82′)
Goals: Diaz (PK – 45+1′), Texeira (64′)
