Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie is a wanted man this summer, according to his agent, but fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman and Southampton apparently lead the chase.

“The relationship between the coach [Koeman] and Jordy is very strong,” Clasie’s agent Weeze Berg told Fox Sports. ‘The coach has also stated that he would like to see Jordy would come to them.” But Berg said there are other clubs interested as well. When asked if Southampton was a preference for Clasie, he said, “That’s a strong word. But it helps that he knows the coach. ”

Clasie would be a sensible replacement for Morgan Schneiderlin, who continues to be strongly linked to Manchester United.

The Feyenoord captain did not take part in a friendly against Fortuna Dusseldorf, and the club confirmed via Twitter that it was due to serious interest from the outside.

“Jordy Clasie is not playing this afternoon against Fortuna Düsseldorf. The reason is that serious interest has been shown for the captain. The club and player have therefore mutually decided for him not to play as long as talks on a possible transfer continue.”

The Express has tabbed Clasie’s transfer value at around $14 million. The 24-year-old has played for Feyenoord since a move from Exelcior in 2011, and has racked up 155 appearances with them, including 46 last season across all competitions where he scored two goals. He was rated Feyenoord’s best midfielder last season by Squawka statistics, and the 17th best in the Eredivisie last year.
