MLS Fan XI All Stars unveiled; Gerrard, Lampard added by Commissioner Garber

Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have been named to the Major League Soccer’s All-Star team despite not yet having played a game in the league.

The pair know a bit about the MLS All Stars’ opponent, Tottenham Hotspur, who will take on the league’s XI at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park on July 29.

The fact that Lampard and Gerrard haven’t played shouldn’t bother you. Seattle’s Obafemi Martins was chosen through a FIFA 15 campaign in which a vote was awarded for every video game goal the voter scored.

It’s a good unit, to be fair, and should give Spurs a real problem. If not for the difference in familiarity, also mitigated by the fact that the All Star Team is a lot of players from the USMNT set-up, you’d peg MLS as the favorites.

The Fan XI was also revealed, and proves that Kansas City knows how to use the Internet:

MF: Michael Bradley (Toronto FC), Kaka (Orlando City), Graham Zusi (Sporting KC), Benny Feilhaber (Sporting KC)

FW: Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders), David Villa (NYC), Martins
