After San Jose jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Galaxy scored five unanswered goals, including Gerrard’s first and a hat trick from Robbie Keane. The win puts Los Angeles in first place in the Western Conference.

Keane cut the Earthquakes’ lead to one from the spot, after Gerrard took an elbow from Tommy Thompson to earn the penalty kick. Then Gerrard would level just minutes later to the delight of the sold-out StubHub Center crowd.

Involved in the first two goals, Gerrard wasn’t done on his debut, assisting on Keane’s second goal of the night. Gerrard played a low free kick into the box into Keane who finished, a combination Galaxy fans will be hoping to see much more of as the season goes on.

Keane would add another from the penalty spot to complete his hat trick, while Sebastian Lletget finished off the scoring in stoppage time. Gerrard played 88 minutes in a wildly successful MLS debut, and once Los Angeles gets Giovani dos Santos and Gyasi Zardes back after the Gold Cup, watch out.
