Despite beating Barcelona 4-2 on penalties after an entertaining 2-2 draw in their International Champions Cup game at FedEx Field in Maryland on Tuesday, it wasn’t all good news for Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea’s manager saw two of his key players go down with injuries during the match, as first Diego Costa limped off and then Gary Cahill took a blow to his face (watch, below) as he headed home the equalizer late on for the reigning Premier League champions.

In terms of Cahill’s injury, it is feared the England international center back has broken his nose and he’s a major doubt for Sunday’s Community Shield final against Arsenal at Wembley.
“Cahill has a chance of a broken nose, maybe yes, maybe no,” Mourinho said. “If no, perfect. If yes, he will get a mask tomorrow to be ready for Sunday.”
As for Costa, Mourinho confirmed that the Spanish international has once again felt something in his troublesome hamstring.
“Diego felt a little thing in his hamstring,” Mourinho said. “We believe it is just a feeling, no more than that, but we have to wait.”
Costa’s injury will be the more worrying for Mourinho, even though he has Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao to step up for the 26-year-old if needed. Costa missed huge chunks of last season as he struggled with lingering hamstring issues that have plagued him since the latter stages of the 2013-14 season when he was still at Atletico Madrid.
The bullish Brazilian-born striker is key to Chelsea’s success and if he’s missing for the start of the new PL season, Mourinho will have to rely on Remy and Falcao to deliver the goals.
