His right injury has dogged him all career, but now the other side has cropped up.
Arsene Wenger didn’t risk Jack Wilshere during the Community Shield in order to keep him fit for the start of the Premier League season, but it appears that may not matter.
According to multiple reports, Wilshere took a blow Saturday in training and injured his left ankle, and while Wenger confirmed the team would miss him for “a matter of days,” BBC’s David Ornstein says it will be longer, keeping the midfielder out of their season opener against West Ham.
Still just 23 years old, Wilshere has had a roller-coaster career with the Gunners often marred by ankle injuries. Last season he missed over four months via injury from the end of November to the end of April, and as a result logged just 729 Premier League minutes.
It’s unsure how long this current injury will keep him out, as the Gunners’ medical team will take a closer look and make a determination as to the extent of the knock. Arsenal would do well to make sure he is fully fit before returning, as Wilshere has been brought back early before to some poor results.
