Oh Thiago Silva, you are going to have a lot of angry Manchester United fans going after you.

With Argentine winger Angel di Maria on the verge of sealing a $68 million move from Manchester United to Paris Saint-Germain, his new captain at PSG, Silva, has claimed that Di Maria will be “taking a step up” from United.

With Di Maria, 27, struggling to settle at Old Trafford after his $99 million move from Real Madrid last summer, the Red Devils seem to have cut their losses with the left winger who scored four goals and added 10 assists in what looks like being his one and only season at United.
Here’s what Silva had to say about the imminent arrival of Di Maria:
“I think that people now need to respect PSG as a club, and our position as one of the big clubs in Europe,” Silva said. “Real Madrid and Barcelona are probably on another level, but after that if you are joining PSG it means you are probably taking a step up.”
“We went further than any English clubs in Europe last year – even beating the English champions. Every season we keep our best players despite much interest, and always add the best players in Europe. How many clubs can say that? The vision our owners have for this club is very clear, and that is for PSG to be the best.”
So, has the Brazilian defender got a point? Are PSG now above United in the pecking order of European superpowers? On the pitch they have won domestic titles and progressed further than United in the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons, but off the pitch you can hardly say that leaving United for PSG is a “step up.”
It will be interesting to hear the reception Silva gets if PSG are drawn against United in the Champions League this season, won’t it?
